Getting Back In 2020

The cool thing about a Covid-19 lock-down is the time you have to think, assess, plan act and the new and creative music that follows is a game changer in a new, stronger and better world...

Yes the Covid-19 pandemic is a tragedy of temporarily insurmountable proportions; but although many hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives may be lost, human nature is such that those of us who come through it will emerge with totally different perspectives and goals to those we had just a short time ago...

I am no different, just a few months ago I had decided to just write the odd book and not really focus on music again and how that has changed in just three-weeks of 'lock-down'...

My first 'go-to' was to shave my head... I always wanted to see what was under all that hair and if at all my skull was in any way shape or form symmetrical and oddly enough I felt somewhat refreshed in doing so...

The personal discovery that a shaved head is representative of a blank canvas led to some very deep thinking as to what else in my life has now been wound back to a blank canvas and exactly what will fill that newly created void...

With two books down and available in E-PUB / Paperback format globally I have to some extent satisfied my curiosity in that regard and definitely have a vastly different attitude towards life, music and where the karmic path will take me on what is proving an inspiring journey...

In one form or another my music career has survived 25-years and through that time frame I have enjoyed making money, particularly when playing live for over a decade from the '80s - '90s and towards the end of that period was one of many who witnessed music venues that used to host 20.000 watt sound and light shows with crowds in the mid to late hundreds slowly be eroded by 'men in suits' who decided literally to bite the hands that fed them, in order to try and make a fast buck with smaller bars that could barely cope with a duo,  often with the disastrous mix of sports bar / gaming and TV lounges that put the final nail in the coffin of the many musicians that had done so well previously...

It's almost like the current world situation has provoked a lot of thought amongst us musicians and artists and rather than quietly walking towards the light into extinction a new hybrid much wiser and stronger version of some of us is emerging with new and innovative ideas that will change the course of the music industry we thought would last forever...

Given the fact that we all have the opportunity to work on our blank canvases without knowing what will grow from this experience I feel that the time is finally right to create new and exciting music presented in ways we never thought possible...

I have no regrets having pulled the plug on the direction I was taking this year, as in live shows with quite a few risky variables financially, because as has been proven in such a short space of time things change and although it's in most musicians nature to battle on I am sure that the musicians that carry on from this point in history will have a totally fresh and safer approach to how the music business continues...

'Getting Back in 2020' is the most revolutionary and complete transformation possible. I have no idea what my hair will look like, as surely as I have no idea exactly what form the new album will take or how it will be promoted, but I do know that the transformation that has started is already better, stronger and more vibrant than any of my previous work so far...

A lot of complacency grew in 2019 and it was time to stop and smell the roses amongst the thorns in life while taking an honest and creative look at what is compared to what could be...

A new album of 13 songs is a big project, but this time around it's so much easier to get on with writing and recording with no end date in mind but the knowledge that it will be the product of adversity and challenge that can only be mastered in time...

Whether the new album is released under my name or with a band name, for a radically fresh start, is undecided but it is nice to have had the experience of the past 25 years, recent months and weeks to honestly and professionally reach this current destination...

Some initial mixes may be put online in the next few months or I may for once keep it in-house which would actually be a refreshing change as I never have been good a secrets...

Either way stay tuned sort of and when it's done feel free to buy it...

Regards

Craig...
